I’m working this morning on getting the Valley Buzz show posted on YouTube.
We did our show, according to schedule, on the Butterfly Festival and Wendy
Brown-Barry did a great job. Overall, I’m not very happy with how it came off.
The music was not right and it’s hard trying to get Chuck to stay on track with
OUR schedule (12-minutes is NOT a lot of time). There seemed to be a problem
with the sound sync with the video. I guess I will find out what it looks like
when we post it. Check it out at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUzWnS0htSbFonBRTY3LsYw
As I watched the show, I got to thinking that WE could produce a better
product right here in Mariposa! I think WE need to start thinking along these
lines. From a production standpoint, I’m not sure what software they are using
but I suspect it is a fairly standard program for this type of production?
I would like to suggest that we start thinking in terms of doing an
Internet based broadcast that would feature OUR local media “stars”. We could
place these REGULAR “shows” on an “on-demand” site, similar to the Old Town
Mariposa YouTube site that I’ve set up, and promote the site through
conventional media AND our individual Web sites (YouTube, Facebook, etc.). We
would continue to maintain our Valley Buzz programming efforts with the thought
of “transitioning” to OUR production base in the future (a year or so???)
Let me know what you think; maybe we can talk about it a little next
Saturday at Breakfast? On another note, I had a very interesting visit with
Terry Silk earlier this week and we talked about media and promotion. I told him
a little about our broadcast/e-book ideas and he suggested that I look into the
“Fieldtrip” application http://allthingsd.com/20131203/oh-the-places-your-phone-will-find/
There is some great potential here but, again, it seems to be driven by the idea
of “content” and that is where the 3MC group comes in. I loaded the App in my
phone and YUP, it works! There is the Fremont Adobe (and about a dozen other
local sites) and our site was well done! It was done by a fellow named Barry
Swackhamer from San Jose on May 25, 2013; his editor was Syd Whittle. I’m trying
to contact them to find out about what they are doing and why??? I’m wondering
if they work for Google???
I’ve been looking at the “media picture” that is being produced our OUR
Town and, sometimes, I’m not sure it does justice to who/what we are! Yesterday,
I went to Wikipedia and read the description of Mariposa and it was all wrong! I
don’t know who wrote it but it needs to be corrected! The town of Mariposa was
NOT originally established along Aqua Fria Creek and MOVED!
I’ve been thinking a lot about the community “image” that we are gaining
and where we are going with this technology. Simple Google searches for OUR key
words are interesting with respect to rankings. Yesterday, in a little meeting
before Wendy and I went to do OUR show in Fresno there was a brief discussion
about establishing a “Mariposa Film Commission”. This idea has some merit but I
think we need to have a broader agenda than promoting the “movies” being made in
OUR County. We should be looking at “media-arts” in general and how our
community is portrayed in “media”.
Back to the Valley Buzz, please look over the schedule and let me know if
there is anything you think needs to be added/changed. Linda and I are committed
to maintaining this effort, at least through the summer. I will become a little
more directive with respect to “production” and I think I’m going to work with
Scott & Maggie about finding some more appropriate music. Lighting, camera
control and simply making sure that OUR program agenda maintained are also high
on my priority list!
Have a good day, Bob
