3MC Follow-up:
We met Saturday morning. Walt was out of town and Damian was on his way to
work so it was “just” me, Kevin Cann, Kim Lawson and Mike Hall, of Ciera Wine
Cellars (a musician and sound technician). Because there were so many “new”
people at the session, I sorta took the discussion towards the history of the
group and what we’ve accomplished. As a practical matter, the video linkage to
the “Old Town” Central Valley Buzz show has become an important “success” story.
A a REAL practical matter, Old Town Mariposa was “packed” this weekend and the
Music on the Green attendance was up and the show we did, with Ronnie Sweeting
(producer of the MG outdoor shows) is now one of the most popular videos in our
TV program series (almost 150 view in four days!). My FB boost for the show paid
of big time with total “reach” of over 8,000 people! Kevin talked about the
demographics of our visitor population and was very encouraging about the job
that we are doing. We, in Mariposa (Old Town Mariposa) are uniquely situated to
benefit from a “short” visit (get away) and the technology that we are employing
strategically “targets” important regional and international “market”
populations! He thinks we are doing it right!
The primary topic of our little meeting session was our new found public
image “strength” and the care and concern that we have that THE IMAGE that we
are projecting out there is THE Image that WE are looking for. We talked a
little about the “mug” shots on the front page of the local newspaper and how
the Central Valley Media often gives us a soiled image (fires, floods,
rock-slides, crime, accidents in the Park, etc.) and how our projects, and media
outlets (Facebook, Google, KAIL-TV, etc.) is putting a positive image out there!
The personal feedback that I’m getting is that THIS is not lost on our “local”
viewers/users of these media outlets! Our new project, the Flash Mob, the
Coulterville Promotion and John Bruce video should enhance that image. We also
have an opportunity to really promote the Carter Ranch Music Festival-Yosemite
Music Festival, that is moving to the Fairgrounds and I’ve had some discussions
with other “activity/event” sponsors over using our new-found media presence to
promote their “shows”! I’m looking at expanding this KAIL show. I’ve attached my
schedule for the next few months. If anyone has any idea, comments and
suggestions, well, we ALL thrive of feedback!
We talked, a little, about the County Grant project and how that project
might be helpful in financing some video projects around our community. We’ve
talked in the past about building a “library” of video on historical/cultural
assets of Mariposa and this project is linked to the Historical Survey that was
done many years ago. When I was Planning Director, we got a small grant from the
State Office of Historic Preservation to do a “Historical Inventory” of Mariposa
County. This inventory is to be updated and “linked” to a Geographic Information
System (GIS) map for “public” viewing. In discussions with Tara Schiff, we’ve
talked about expanding this information to use Multi-Media “content” and there
may be money set aside in the grant to help pay for the development of this type
of “content”.
It was noted that this type of “content” is not limited in application to
the GIS map but can be applied to other technologies that are out there. I’ve
attached a little information package that I’m pulling together for the Coin
that “explains” how WE, at the Coin, are using this technology. All three of
these “tools” provide people, with hand-held devices, access to multi-media
“content” that we are developing. Once we get them here, we “enrich” their
experience by providing them with multi-media “content” that tells the “story”
of their surroundings! This is just the beginning!
We also talked, a little, about the new multi-media studio that we are
developing down at the Epic Youth Center, south of town with Eric McClard and
his wife. We are assembling “stuff” to make this studio a reality. We’ve also
talked with several folks about getting our audio “enhanced” on our videos so
that they can have a better effect; particularly when we start doing more work
with our musician friends! Through one of my networks, I’ve connected with Sean
Lovelady, a TV studio production guy from one of my old “haunts”, the City of
Waterford, and he has also offered some technical advice about how we can
improve our sound quality.
So that’s about it! As usual, we had no agenda; this is sort of a
brain-storming session and, unfortunately with Walt and Damian gone, I pretty
much dominated the conversation! I promise that happen again! I hope you had a
great weekend and if you have anything to contribute to the good of the “order”,
please feel free to share with this group. One thing that I left the
conversation with was that WE ARE ALL ON THE SAME PAGE with respect to where
this project is going. Bob
