Phew, what a week!
Last week our KAIL show featured Kathy McCorry from the Chamber, this week
Terry Silk from the Tourism Bureau will be my guest. After that it the John Muir
festival and on and on. We met to discuss creating a multi-media center near
downtown and Tuesday, while Terry and I are in Fresno taping our show,
Kathy/Walt and crew will be “flash-mobbing” Old Town Mariposa! Things are moving
forward at a pretty fast clip right now. The idea of having a Community TV
(Web-Based) program now seems very real. Every day we learn something new. I’ve
also talked to a couple of local (Old Town) merchants about sharing some “stage”
time on the KAIL-TV program.
Carol Fong, our Gold Coin “Web-Master” is working with us to create three
I-Beacon sites in the Coin and we have followed up on Terry Silk’s “Field Trip”
site and found that we, here in Mariposa, have a rich collection of “stuff” that
people can tap into with their mobile devices. Go to: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.scout.
The content, for our town/the Gold Coin, is great in this application. We need
to explore how we can enhance this information source and “upgrade” our WiFi
book to provide people with links. There is great commercial application for
this Field Trip site in OUR businesses. We will be needing to develop “content”
for our I-Beacon blasts. My thoughts NOW (this is an evolving process) is that
we would place on beacon near the entrance to our building and focus on the
building/business/J. Fremont history. The second would be placed near the murals
and a third near the gun (shooting-tool) collection. This collection has become
a big draw to customers (local & visitors). There is a lot of interest in
OUR history and this collection catches people’s imagination without being
political!
Our Art & Artist projects have been slipping. The interview/profile
with Dewitt and Franklyn kinda fell apart. The John Bruce project is on hold,
briefly, while Damian and I work through our “other” list (s) of projects. I’ve
talked with a couple of our Gold Coin performers and I plan to do a “show” with
them in Fresno and I plan to apply the same techniques/approaches with them that
we have been developing in our Art & Artist profile. A short music clip and
the artists story! This might be a great opportunity to “test-drive” this
concept in the 12.5 minute “window”. I’ve been contacted by Sal Maccarone about
putting another one of his sculptures in the Coin and this opens up some other
interesting opportunities with respect to promoting our local art community! We
could connect on of our I-Beacons to his art piece and TELL Sal’s story to our
visitors!
There is a lot going on and, as always, it has been a concern that as we
achieve wider “exposure” (we are over 18,000 “views” on our Gold Coin Google
site https://plus.google.com/114746803474998405513/posts?hl=en
and our Old Town site https://plus.google.com/102820018984171251854/posts
is growing daily. I’ve been exploring the “linkage” between our Gold Coin Web
site, our FB pages and the Google sites; they all work together and, with the
multi-media (video) dimension, it seems like there is a great deal of “synergy”
being created!????
At another level, I’ve been communicating with some of my “planning” peers
(yea, I still do that “stuff”) and “connecting the dots”.

Some of my “old bosses” from some Valley cities have been “tuned-in” to what
I’ve been working on up here and thinking about how this could be applied in
their cities! You never know where this might lead.
Yup, there’s a lot going on and I recall what my old friend Bob Perez told
me; “sometimes you just have to follow your nose with ‘things’ and see where
they lead you”. I’m not sure where all this is heading but it seems to be
working. Business is good; we have a lot of people down-town (Old Town) and
folks are finding out that we are a fun/interesting place to visit-even if you
already live here! There is a lot going on right now and I hope this “little”
e-mail blast finds you all doing well, wrapping up school and getting ready for
a busy summer. Life is good. Bob
