“Old Town
Mariposa”-Central Valley Buzz TV Program Approach
Purpose:
Mariposa
is a unique area with a colorful history. The people who have called this area
“home” over the centuries (including the Miwok Indians) have been heavily
influenced by the natural setting, which includes Yosemite Valley. Gold was
first discovered in Mariposa in 1849 by a party of minors, from Sonora Mexico,
led by John C. Fremont on land that he was claiming as part of a Mexican Land
Grant that he had bought.
Objective:
The
“Old Town” Mariposa show has the key objective of giving viewers an update as
to what is going on in and around OUR “Old Town” Mariposa. Additionally, this
program is “putting a face” on Mariposa featuring people who play important
roles in OUR community.
What
is going on
is much more than community activities and events. There are significant
community issues that have huge implications around the region and the nation.
The simple fact that Yosemite National Park, perhaps one of the most well-known
Parks in the world, is in OUR back-yard makes OUR community newsworthy
at an international scale.
In
my “programming” for this “show” I’ve tried to feature entertainment and
cultural events around our Town. My primary subjects are the Art
& Artists of our community and the “Where History Lives”
aspect of OUR life-style. I try to stress the cultural heritage of our town and
the role that Mariposa has played in California and our Nation’s history. John
and Jessie Fremont are focus points for my presentations.
At
the same time, we cannot ignore the Natural History and Environmental
Implications of OUR residency here.
The
schedule for the program is dynamic and the focus of our “shows” has evolved as
we have learned to use this media. We, at the Coin, have decided that this
media is most effective if we do it weekly for a brief show. We try to
incorporate lots of pictures/video into the show to supplement the “interview”
format. We bring our own multi-media supplements on a zip drive. Following the
“show’s” taping on Tuesday, we are given a USB (or other recorded media) device
with the show on it that we can post to the YouTube web site for “Old Town”
Mariposa:
All
of this, of course, is “linked” to our Gold Coin Web site, Facebook site and
our Google site.
Audience:
The
“show” has two “broadcast” modes. The first is conventional TV that is
broadcast to households within the KAIL broadcast area which includes most of
the Central Valley. The Channel is accessible on Cable TV and to some Dish
subscribers. The TV broadcast “airs” around lunch time on Thursday and the
second broadcast is around 4 or 5 on Thursday afternoons.
The
second “broadcast” mode is via the World Wide Web and is accessible to anyone,
any place in the world that has Internet access. We post our show on the Web
sites above along with other “Old Town” specific information. We also create
“links” to these sites via our regular web site. Note that the Google/YouTube
sites are formatted for viewing via a mobile device and a large number of OUR
views come from these devices.
Our
principal “audience” market is the San Joaquin Valley but the show also has
direct TV and Internet access to most households in Mariposa County. Of course,
with WWW access, the audience is World Wide, potentially, and can be “directed”
through the use of a Web site or Social Media site (or other media).
