Saturday morning (6/14-14), 8:30 Coffee and Donuts at the Coin
Multi-Media Group “gathering”.
Phew, what a week! Last weekend our little “village” was packed with
people; “locals” and visitors alike. We, at the Coin, had a great weekend;
perhaps one of the best since we opened the doors! The odd thing was that there
was nothing really special going on! The opening night Music on the Green was
well attended and, overall, the town “rocked”! It has not really slowed down
this week and we expect this weekend to be a repeat performance! Folks are
“discovering” Old Town for what it is I think and our little promotion effort,
in conjunction with the overall efforts of both the Tourism Bureau and the
Chamber, are paying off. Our little multi-media TV show is a hit and our
“numbers” keep improving on both our Old Town Web sites. https://www.facebook.com/OldTownMariposa?ref_type=bookmark
and https://plus.google.com/102820018984171251854/posts?hl=en.
The views on our shows, on YouTube, have really started to take off!
- John Muir Trail Show-128 views in two weeks
- Music on the Green Show 138 views in one week and
- Thursdays Mariposa Wagon Train Show-91 views in ONE DAY!
Next week we do the Football Hall of Fame with Trace DeSandres and the
following week we will be have Brian Bullis talking about the Mariposa County
Friends of the Fair. Brian has developed a little “slide show” to go along with
his appearance that shows off the “Sausage and Suds” fundraiser for the
Fairgrounds. This week, Chuck Leonard went on the Web and pulled a Music on the
Green video from a Snail show and “amped” up our little program with a little
preview of this weekend’s performance on the Green! By the way, Chuck is
recovering, in the hospital, from a torn artery. We have a stand-in host, Mike
Scott, for the Buzz program until Chuck can return. Chuck, based on latest
reports, is doing well and his little “stroke” did not cause any permanent
damage! We should be back to “normal” in a few weeks.
On other projects, Damian and I have been dealt a little setback; our
Featured Artist, John Bruce fell and broke his hip and is in the Hospital in
Fresno. This will set us back with respect to “interview” videos. I spoke with
Terry Silk about the Coulterville Video and he has not seen the updated product
as of yet. We a looking forward to getting this Hebern Class project out in the
public arena soon. School is out, of course, so whatever was in process at the
Multi-Media Class is going to be put off until next year EXCEPT the Flash-Mob
project for the Chamber. Walt will do the final edit on this video BEFORE he
takes off to do a little (one month) research on multi-media techniques in
Europe! We have a MAJOR event, with respect to Walt’s Class and Their
Multi-Media Award! We need to plan some “public” exposure of this recognition
our High School has earned SOON! We also need to talk about progress on our
Studio project with the Epic group. One thing that we need to put on someone’s
list is a LIST of our needed equipment/software. Jon Corripo suggested that we
look at “Wirecast” as a mixing software and I’ve found out that this is the
software that they use down at the Valley Buzz show to produce their programs.
This “studio” produces a show for “live” TV from the Tower District; we could do
the same thing from Old Town Mariposa! Ain’t technology Great!
On the Coin front, we are moving forward with our I-Beacon application.
We’ve had some setbacks with the technology but we are moving forward. We will
have three beacons, in the Coin and each one will tell a little different story.
The first one will focus on the Coin and our menu. The second one will focus on
our Gold Coin Gun Collection. The third will focus on the walls, art, and
history of the Coin. These little “shows” have great multi-media potential and
are the perfect compliment to our “Gold Coin Scrapbook” which gets a lot of use
around our establishment. I’ve attached a copy of the DRAFT “WiFi” booklet that
we are developing to “tune” our customers into these multi-media resources.
We will be updating the Scrapbook this summer and we are also looking at
converting some of this “content” into other E-Book documents that can be
adapted to use by tablets and hand-held devices. Part of our overall (inbound)
marketing strategy, at the Coin, is to have the resources that our “connected”
customers use! Our visitor market in Asia, Europe, LA, SF/Santa Clara Co. are
all very knowledgeable about how these telecommunications devices work. With our
little application of these technologies, and our little WiFi booklet, we can
help our “local” population gain sophistication with the latest communications
technology! Right now we ARE a “connected” community, as demonstrated by the
success we are seeing with our little Valley Buzz show! Our “content” resources
are growing with our “Inbound” marketing focus and life is good. I met yesterday
with one of my FUTURE guests on the Old Town Show, Dibbie Croft from the Merced
Sun Star. We were talking about what is going on HERE and I told her that I
would send her a little write-up that I did, as part of our Coin Business Plan,
on Inbound Marketing. I’ve decided to attach it to this post for all to look
over. These are, of course, my thoughts and we can talk about “evolving” this
concept of marketing, BUT, the role of multi-media in this marketing approach is
clear! This document was something that I worked up to try and explain to Walt’s
class about HOW we were using THEIR work. Frankly, it was much too complicated
and I need to rework it but it does explain the Inbound/Outbound marketing
concept and that’s my objective here!
Also, attached is the little No Film School news letter I get. Some fun
things for your exploration pleasure. See you Saturday morning otherwise stay in
touch. There is a lot going on and this summer looks like it’s going to be busy!
